Since 1972, Duck and Decanter has been serving Phoenix with fresh flavors, original recipes, and a welcoming neighborhood spirit. That year, Earl and Dort Mettler purchased the existing Duck and Decanter business and helped shape “The Duck” into a beloved local destination. Its first location was on Camelback Road, just east of 16th Street, in a peaceful garden nursery setting with outdoor seating on rolling lawns. Guests came for thoughtfully crafted sandwiches, hearty soups, crisp salads, a wide array of beverages —and stayed for the relaxed, one-of-a-kind experience.

 

More than five decades later, Duck and Decanter continues to thrive at 16th Street and Camelback. Along the way, we have grown through renovations, a major relocation in 1985, the 2008 recession, and the COVID-19 pandemic—always supported by a loyal community that has helped us keep our beaks above water. Today, “The Duck” is proud to be recognized with more than 50 local, regional and national awards.

 

As a Central Phoenix pioneer, Duck and Decanter has always been ahead of its time—from introducing espresso, wine by the glass, and winemaker dinners to offering fresh handcrafted cheeses and specialty cooking accessories. As we look to the future, our mission remains the same: to offer exceptional food, unique finds, and a memorable experience that brings people together for generations to come.
