About Us

Duck and Decanter, as it is known today, began In November of 1972 under the new ownership of Dort and Earl Mettler. The original location was on Camelback road just east of 16th Street in Phoenix, AZ (right about where the Starbucks sits in the Target parking lot now) where a large garden nursery surrounded “The Duck”, providing the ambiance of a park-like environment with outside seating on a lawn with rolling hills. “The Duck"’s particular yet growing menu consisted of freshly prepared, high-quality sandwiches, and was composed of unique recipes along with a variety of food including soups, salads, and desserts.

Over the many decades of business, “The Duck” has ridden the wave of change. While dealing with obstacles such as neverending structural improvements, relocating in 1985, the recession of 2008, and the COVID-19 Pandemic, we've managed to keep our beaks above water with the unrelenting help of former Mayor John Driggs, the city of Phoenix, and all of our lifetime loyal customers. Duck and Decanter is still currently thriving at its location on 16th Street and Camelback which has received over 50 awards in a number of categories in periodicals across the nation.

Duck and Decanter looks toward the future as has been noted as a leader in the market for offering new and innovative services with being the first in the central Phoenix market to offer espresso, wine by the glass, wine tastings, seminars and winemaker dinners, fresh hand-crafted cheeses, freshly roasted coffees, traditional imported delicacies and cooking accessories. “The Duck” will remain jubilant for the next decades to come in a unique market because of its strong customer base; customers who realize it is not only the quality of the goods they purchase, but it is the experience as well.

The Duck and Decanter mission:

To provide the highest levels of service to our guests, purveying products and merchandise that are unique and represent superior craftsmanship and to offer support and leadership in the communities touched by the Duck.
