HARD SAUCE FOR PLUM PUDDING

You do not have to wait for the holidays. This sauce is also good when spread on warm nut or spice cake.

  • 1-cup butter, room temperature

  • 1 cup sifted confectionary sugar

  • 6 tablespoons rum

  • 1/4-teaspoon nutmeg

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla

Cream butter and sugar together. Add nutmeg and vanilla and mix again. Incorporate rum a little at a time. Refrigerate. To serve on plum pudding, the hard sauce should be at room temperature. It may need to be stirred before serving. Makes approximately 2 cups.
